K Update

Language Arts:
We have been working on a new comprehension reading power! The power to ask questions! Our new song is below. It is sung to the tune of "Oh My Darling, Clementine."
While reading at home, encourage your children to ask questions about what is happening in the story. They can ask quick questions and deep questions. Quick questions can have yes or no answers and the answers can be found in the book. Deep questions might take some discussion, inferencing or further reading to answer.

When readers learn to question while reading:
  • they are learning the power of asking as well as answering questions
  • they are encouraged to be curious readers
  • they learn that asking questions can lead them to a greater understanding of the text
  • they learn that not all questions have answers, and often these unanswerable questions will help to get at the heart of the story better than those that can be answered.

Report Cards:
Report Cards were sent home today! Please check Yellow Folders for your child's report card. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Valentine's Lists:
It's almost February and that means Valentine's Day is near! Valentine's class lists will be coming home in Yellow Folders on February 1st. If the list doesn't make it home, feel free to ask me for another one. If you are choosing to do Valentines's cards, please ensure that one is made for every child so we can make it a happy day for all!
